Depot Cinema Sponsors Lewes Learning Disability Documentary

  • Pinwell Road Lewes, England, BN7 United Kingdom (map)

Depot cinema has sponsored the making of a short documentary film about Zest, the Lewes learning disability project.

The seven minute film, which will be screened at Depot each day from 17 September, highlights the work of Zest, a community interest company that supports and trains adults with learning disabilities and autism. The project provides workplace experience and opportunities through delivering a professional car valeting service, based in the County Hall car park in Lewes.

Depot director Carmen Slijpen said: “We were very pleased to support the filming of this insightful short documentary and we’re delighted that it will receive its première at Depot. The film will play an important role in raising awareness that, with the right support, people with learning disabilities can contribute equally, be valued and be included by society. And the Zest valeting service is second to none!”

The documentary will be launched at a special event at Depot on Sunday 17 September. To mark the launch, Depot will be screening the Zest short, followed by the classic 1976 musical comedy Car Wash, set in Los Angeles and starring Richard Pryor.

As part of the afternoon of celebrations, there will be a chance to see two classic American cars on the Depot forecourt. To complete the theme, Depot will be serving American diner food and playing funk and soul music. Cinema-goers are invited to join in the fun and wear seventies dress.

Entrance to Depot is free. The double bill film screening is at 3pm.  Cinema tickets (£4 - £6) are from Depot Box Office (01273) 525354.
